Speaking on 24 October 2026, Dankwah stated: “If Johnson Asiedu Nketiah decides not to contest the flagbearership position in the NDC, then there is no contest at all.
His comments come as Asiedu Nketiah has opted out of seeking re-election as National Chairman. The decision has fuelled speculation that he may eye the party’s presidential candidacy for the 2028 elections.
Dankwah’s assessment points to the influence Asiedu Nketiah, popularly known as General Mosquito, still holds within the NDC. The pollster suggested that his presence or absence would significantly shape the dynamics of the internal contest.
Asiedu Nketiah has served the party in various leadership roles over the years. His long experience and relationships with delegates make him a central figure in discussions about the party’s future direction.
The NDC is currently focused on its national executive elections, with nominations closed and several aspirants eyeing the chairmanship position. Attention is gradually shifting toward the bigger question of who will lead the party into the next general election.
Dankwah’s remarks add to the growing debate over potential contenders and the level of competition expected in the flagbearership race.
