‘I Need My GH¢100,000 Back’ — Dubai-Based Ghanaian Cries Out After Ex Sells House
A Ghanaian man living in Dubai is demanding GH¢100,000 from his former fiancée after discovering that a house he financed and built on land belonging to her mother had been sold while he was abroad.
Philip Asumang presented his case on Oyerepa TV’s Oyerepa Afutuo programme on October 22, 2026, explaining how a relationship that began in the Ashanti Region eventually turned into a dispute over money, land and a completed house.
Philip said he met Florence through her mother, popularly known as Maa Vic, around 2020. At the time, they were involved in bread trading in Suame. Their relationship developed after Maa Vic suggested that Philip consider one of her daughters as a potential partner. Florence initially rejected his marriage proposal but later agreed to the relationship after her mother encouraged her to reconsider.
According to Philip’s account, Maa Vic offered the couple a portion of her land where they could build a home when they were financially ready. Florence later told him about an opportunity to travel to Dubai through a travel agent her mother had reportedly met at church.
Philip relocated to Dubai and began sending money to Ghana to finance construction on the land. However, after the house was completed, Florence ended the relationship.
Maa Vic reportedly proposed dividing the land so Philip could retain the house while Florence received another portion. But Philip said he was subsequently informed that Florence had already sold the property.
He returned to Ghana seeking compensation, insisting that he wanted at least GH¢100,000, which he said he had spent on the project. He added that his overall expenditure on the relationship and house exceeded that amount.
Florence confirmed during the programme that she had ended the relationship and sold the house. She maintained that the land belonged to her and said the family had lent Philip GH¢12,000 to support his travel to Dubai.
She also explained that part of the sale proceeds was needed for her younger sister’s education. Florence said she was willing to refund some money to Philip, but argued that the amount should account for the land and the outstanding travel loan.
The disagreement has left the former couple with conflicting positions over how the proceeds should be shared. Philip insists that GH¢100,000 is the minimum settlement he will accept, while Florence maintains that her family’s financial contribution and ownership of the land must be considered.
The programme’s account does not indicate that a court has ruled on the dispute or established the parties’ respective legal rights to the property.
