Geoffrey Mosiria Sounds Alarm Over Nairobi Heat as He Warns Residents About El Niño
Nairobi County official Geoffrey Mosiria has warned Nairobi residents to prepare for the expected El Niño rains, urging them to take precautions as the city continues to experience high temperatures.
In a post on his official X account, Mosiria advised residents to plant trees but cautioned that the government had not done enough to protect them from possible flooding and other disasters.
“Ile joto iko Nairobi!” he wrote, expressing concern over the high temperatures being experienced in the city.
Mosiria questioned how the government would protect residents from floods when buildings had allegedly been approved on drainage systems, rivers had been diverted, and construction had been allowed in disregard of the law.
He also accused leaders of becoming more concerned about residents as the 2027 General Election approaches, claiming they had failed to show the same concern during previous floods that claimed lives.
“As the 2027 re-election draws near, they now pretend to be on the ground and care about you. But where were they last year, when floods claimed many lives? They were nowhere to be seen,” Mosiria stated.
He further criticised the authorities for failing to provide residents with updates following the loss of lives in South C and the recent collapse of a building in Eastleigh.
According to Mosiria, the lack of timely information about such incidents raises questions about the government’s preparedness for the coming rainy season.
He warned residents against relying entirely on government plans, arguing that they should take personal responsibility for protecting their lives and property.
“The only thing they will tell you is, ‘We shall investigate, and those responsible for the loss of property and lives shall face the full force of the law,’” he said.
Mosiria also linked the high temperatures being experienced in Nairobi to his concerns about the coming rains, warning that the situation could be difficult for residents.
He urged Nairobians to prepare early instead of waiting for floods or other disasters to strike before taking action.
