Duduzane Zuma Arrives in uMlazi as MK Party Steps Up Campaign Ahead of Local Elections

uMkhonto WeSizwe (MK) Party leaders have arrived in uMlazi, south of Durban, as the party steps up its campaign efforts ahead of South Africa’s upcoming local government elections.

According to SABC News journalist Ayanda Mhlongo, the party’s first Deputy President, Duduzane Zuma, arrived in K Section, uMlazi, on Sunday, 25 October 2026. He was accompanied by the party’s eThekwini mayoral candidate, Apostle Mxolisi Phakathi, and other prominent regional leaders.

The leaders gathered to attend a mini rally aimed at mobilising supporters and strengthening the party’s presence in the area as political parties intensify their efforts to attract voters.

With the elections just nine days away, the gathering provides the MK Party with an opportunity to reinforce its campaign message, engage with residents and encourage supporters to rally behind its candidates.

The rally forms part of the party’s broader campaign under the slogan “Sithatha Omasipala”, which means “We are taking the municipalities”.

Supporters and party volunteers filled the hall ahead of Zuma’s anticipated address, demonstrating the importance the party places on engaging with its grassroots supporters during the final stages of campaigning.

The presence of Apostle Mxolisi Phakathi is also notable as the MK Party seeks to strengthen its position in eThekwini, one of KwaZulu-Natal’s key metropolitan municipalities. The party will be hoping to turn its campaign activities into electoral support as voters prepare to choose their local representatives.

KwaZulu-Natal remains an important political battleground, with parties competing to attract voters and increase their influence in local government. The upcoming elections are expected to provide a significant test of the MK Party’s ability to consolidate its support and challenge established political parties.

For the MK Party, the uMlazi gathering comes at a crucial stage of its campaign. The party has been engaging with communities in different areas while promoting its ambition to win control of municipalities and expand its representation in local government.

Campaign rallies such as this one allow political leaders to communicate their priorities directly to supporters, encourage voter participation and persuade undecided residents to consider their candidates.

As election day approaches, the party’s leadership will be looking to use the remaining campaign period to mobilise its support base and strengthen its chances at the polls.

Zuma’s address is expected to be a key part of Sunday’s programme, with supporters gathering to hear the party’s message and its plans for the upcoming elections.

With voting day drawing closer, the MK Party’s presence in uMlazi highlights its efforts to build momentum and compete for political influence in eThekwini and beyond.
