UK Govt Subscribes KSh 1.94 Billion to Quickmart IPO Ahead of NSE Listing, Details

The transaction is structured as an offer for sale rather than a primary capital injection into the supermarket chain. Under the terms of the offer, Quickmart is floating two billion existing ordinary shares—representing 50% of its issued share capital—at KSh 7.50 per share, with an implied valuation of KSh 30 billion. Consequently, all proceeds raised from the share offer, including the UK government’s commitment, will go to the selling shareholder, Sokoni Retail Kenya Limited, rather than directly to Quickmart’s operational accounts.

While the investment broadens public share ownership and provides secondary liquidity on the regional bourse, it does not supply direct cash reserves for new branch expansions or consumer price reductions. Quickmart Chief Executive Officer Peter Kang’iri clarified that the company will continue funding its store footprint growth, digital channels, and operational improvements through internally generated cash flow.

The subscription increases total UK government investments via the MOBILIST program on the NSE to KSh 4.3 billion. The offer is scheduled to close on October 30, 2026, with official trading on the Main Investment Market Segment anticipated to commence on November 12, 2026.
