Two Months Ago I Said Tinubu Would Be Coronated On Jan 16, 2027, But Now Odds Have Changed-Nwaokobia
According to Arise TV on Saturday, October 24, 2026, human rights lawyer and public analyst, Dr. Chris Nwaokobia Jnr, has said the political odds for the 2027 presidential election have changed drastically.
Nwaokobia, who is the convener of the Country First Movement, was speaking as a guest on Arise TV Morning Show where manifestos of presidential candidates were being analyzed ahead of the January 2027 polls.
He said if he was asked two months ago about the chances of President Bola Tinubu winning re-election, he would have said the Tinubu presidency will be coronated on January 16, 2027, except the opposition parties coalesce.
According to him, the situation is now different. He said he now sees a presidency that is absolutely jittery, struggling to sell itself, and lacking in what to campaign with.
“I see a presidency that’s absolutely jittery. I see a presidency that is struggling to sell itself. I see a presidency that is lacking in what to campaign with,” he said.
Nwaokobia referenced an interview where the Minister of Works, David Umahi, admitted that the government is paying about 4,000 influencers to talk about what it is doing. He argued that if the government was doing profound and excellent work, it would not need 4,000 influencers to sell itself.
He said the general impression in the public space is that Nigerians are saying no to the Tinubu presidency and it will take an uphill task for the President to return. He joked that the presidency may need 1 million influencers to sell its government.
The lawyer saluted the efforts of the G-100, a group trying to ensure a united opposition that will field one candidate, but noted that even outside that, the opposition is likely to steal the show in 2027.
He said one reason is that the presidency is lacking in what to campaign with, and secondly, the spokespersons of President Tinubu have reduced presidential contestation to very banal and primitive arguments.
He cited an example where a spokesperson was talking about reshaping and remodeling primary schools in the North as an achievement to sell a presidential candidate.
Nwaokobia said the 2027 election is about the economy, security, and well-being of 250 million Nigerians, and any candidate with a workable and formidable manifesto with clear timelines can defeat the incumbent.
