Tinubu Booed As Crowd Chants ‘Ba Ma Yi’ At APC Campaign Flag-Off In Kaduna

According to a report by Daily Trust on Saturday, October 24, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu faced an unexpected reaction from a section of the crowd at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna, as attendees booed him and chanted an expression suggesting they did not support him.

The incident occurred at Ranchers Bees Stadium when Tinubu mounted the podium to address thousands of people gathered for the launch of his campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The president attempted to engage the audience by calling out Nigeria, but some attendees responded with the Hausa expression “Ba ma yi,” signalling their disapproval.

The crowd’s reaction reportedly continued when Tinubu mentioned Kaduna. The response was sufficiently different from what he appeared to expect that he had to invoke the name of the state governor, Uba Sani, before proceeding with his address.

Some of those who expressed displeasure cited insecurity and the impact of the government’s economic policies as reasons for their reaction. Their conduct contrasted with the support the APC leadership had sought to demonstrate at the campaign event.

During his speech, Tinubu acknowledged the hardship and hunger affecting Nigerians but blamed the opposition for the situation. He also promised to address the problem if returned to office in 2027.

Earlier, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda presented party flags to the seven governors of the North-West zone: Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Uba Sani of Kaduna, Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano, Dikko Radda of Katsina, Nasiru Idris of Kebbi, Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara.

All seven governors are serving their first terms and seeking re-election under the APC, according to Daily Trust. Governors from other states also attended the event, alongside Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, ministers, lawmakers and former governors.
