Suspected Political Thugs Attack NDC Candidate’s Convoy in Ebonyi

According to report by Vanguard on Friday, October 23, 2026, tragically, one life was lost and three others wounded in an alleged attack on the convoy of a House of Assembly candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ebonyi State.

On Friday in Abakaliki, the state’s police public relations officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

At approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday, in the Amaezekwe community of the Ezza South Local Government Area of the state, an attack happened, according to Ukandu.

According to him, the authorities wasted no time in responding to a distress call about a disturbance in the neighborhood and sending officers to the scene.

According to reports, the operatives found a burned-out car and four individuals injured by gunfire when they arrived at the scene.

While three of the victims were still in the hospital undergoing treatment, Ukandu revealed that one of them had passed away.

While three others are receiving medical treatment, one victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the police spokesperson.

On the other hand, Mr. Offia-Nwali, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Ezza South Constituency, claimed that he was the victim of an attack on his convoy by alleged political thugs, who then set fire to his Toyota Hilux.

Offia-Nwali conveyed her deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and individuals impacted by the tragic incident.

Additionally, he urged the youth of Ebonyi State to stand up to politicians who would use them for their own gain or to further their political ambitions by resorting to violence.

The candidate emphasized that political rivalry should not lead to the loss of human lives and cautioned young people against being manipulated into engaging in violent acts.

He firmly believed that no young person’s life should be sacrificed for political ambition.

As state-wide political activities heat up in the run-up to the 2027 general election, this incident has stoked fears of political violence.
