Safaricom Introduces New Fuliza Service for Traders as Kenyans Learn How to Access It
Small business owners in Kenya may soon have another option when they run short of money while serving customers or restocking their shops. Safaricom has introduced Fuliza Ya Pochi, a service designed to help eligible Pochi La Biashara users complete certain business transactions even when their wallets do not have enough money. The service was launched in Thika on October 22, 2026.
For many small traders, running a business means dealing with unexpected expenses, from buying stock to paying suppliers. A shortage of cash at the wrong time can interrupt business operations. Fuliza Ya Pochi is intended to help eligible merchants manage such situations by allowing qualifying transactions to go through despite an insufficient wallet balance.
However, not every trader will automatically qualify for the service. Reported eligibility requirements include having actively used Pochi La Biashara for at least six months. The amount a trader can access depends on their business activity, and the outstanding balance is recovered from money subsequently received into their Pochi wallet. Traders should therefore understand the charges and repayment terms before using the facility.
Kenyans interested in the service can dial *334# and follow the Pochi La Biashara menu prompts, or check the Pochi Mini App in My OneApp. The important thing to remember is that this is a business overdraft facility, not free money. For traders who regularly experience short-term cash shortages, it may offer some flexibility, but careful borrowing remains important to avoid putting further pressure on their businesses.
