Ruto Left In Dilemma After Latest Opinion Poll Reveals What Might Happen During 2027 Elections
President William Ruto is facing growing political competition ahead of the August 2027 General Election, with a new poll suggesting that opposition leaders could pose a serious challenge if they unite behind a single presidential candidate.
According to a survey released by Research 8020, Ruto received 26 per cent support among respondents asked to identify their preferred presidential candidate. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna followed closely with 25 per cent, highlighting the narrowing gap between the President and the emerging opposition figures.
The survey further indicated that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka attracted 11 per cent support, while former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i received 9 per cent.
The findings come amid continued criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration over taxation, economic policies and the rising cost of living, issues opposition leaders have repeatedly raised in their campaigns against the government.
When the reported support for opposition candidates is considered collectively, their combined backing exceeds 50 per cent, presenting a potential challenge to Ruto’s re-election ambitions.
However, the figures do not necessarily guarantee an opposition victory, particularly because supporters of different leaders may not automatically rally behind one candidate.
Whether opposition leaders can agree on a joint presidential candidate could prove decisive.
Do you think the opposition can defeat Ruto in 2027, or is it too early to predict the outcome?
