Regardless of who emerge as NDC’S flag bearer, Bawumia will win hands down in 2028
Former Minister of Information Fatimatu Abubakar has expressed confidence that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will win Ghana’s 2028 presidential election, regardless of the candidate presented by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
She made the remarks during TV3’s The KeyPoints programme on Saturday, October 24, 2026, where political developments and the country’s upcoming general elections were discussed.
According to Abubakar, her prediction is based on what she considers shortcomings in the current NDC administration and the record of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
She maintained that Dr. Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, would secure victory in the next general election regardless of who emerges as the NDC’s presidential candidate.
Her comments come amid growing political discussions within both major parties as they prepare for the 2028 general elections.
However, her prediction has been met with a contrasting view from private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, who expressed optimism about the NDC’s prospects while suggesting that the party’s vote share could decline compared with the 2024 general elections.
The discussion also touched on concerns about freedom of expression and the NDC’s ongoing internal electoral processes.
The 2028 presidential election is expected to be a major political contest between the NPP and the NDC, with the performance of the current government, the opposition’s campaign message and the candidates selected by both parties likely to feature prominently in public debate.
Abubakar’s remarks reflect the NPP’s confidence ahead of the election, although the eventual outcome will be determined by Ghanaian voters at the polls.
