Reform Will Endure Only When Compliance Becomes A Pathway To Opportunity Rather Than Hardship—Cudjoe
According to a Post on Franklin Cudjoe official facebook account on Saturday, October 24,2026,Ghanaian social commentator Franklin Cudjoe has drawn attention to the Ghana Gold Board’s (GoldBod) proposed programme to formalise artisanal and small-scale mining, improve productivity and create employment opportunities.
In a Facebook post, Cudjoe shared remarks attributed to GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi, who called for mining regulations that balance strict enforcement with practical support for operators in the sector.
Gyamfi argued that mining reforms would achieve lasting results only when compliance creates economic opportunities rather than imposing additional hardships on miners.
He maintained that regulation should not focus solely on policing mining activities but should also promote formalisation, capacity-building and opportunities for young people across the mining and gold-trading industries.
According to the remarks shared by Cudjoe properly organised artisanal and small-scale mining could support livelihoods, generate foreign exchange, strengthen national reserves and promote the growth of indigenous businesses.
Gyamfi also highlighted the role of modern technology and sound engineering practices in improving the performance of small-scale mining operations.
He explained that adopting better mining methods could increase gold recovery rates, reduce waste, improve workplace safety and minimise environmental damage.
The GoldBod CEO further disclosed plans to introduce an Artisanal and Small-scale Mining Formalisation and Financing Support Programme (FFSP) in 2027.
The proposed initiative is expected to be implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the University of Mines and Technology, and Rand Refinery.
According to Gyamfi, the programme will seek to increase gold production sustainably, boost mineral revenue and create jobs while reducing operating costs and environmental risks.
