NEWS IN: Kenya Met Lists Regions To Receive Heavy Rainfall Across The Country In Next 24 Hours

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an expanded weather advisory warning residents across 31 counties including Nairobi to brace for moderate to heavy rainfall exceeding 20 millimeters, accompanied by strong winds exceeding 46 kilometers per hour, through October 30, 2026.

​According to the alert released on Friday, October 23, the heavy precipitation will impact regions spanning the Coast, Northeastern, Western, the Rift Valley, the Central Highlands, and Southeastern lowlands. The affected counties include Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo, Migori, Nyamira, Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, Vihiga, West Pokot, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Kisii, Kericho, Bomet, Kiambu, Embu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Laikipia, Tharaka-Nithi, Meru, Narok, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, and parts of Nairobi.

​Forecasters have urged communities in low-lying and downstream areas to remain highly vigilant for sudden flash floods, noting that heavy run-off can accumulate even in areas that have not experienced direct rainfall.

Residents have also been advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms by avoiding open fields, tall trees, and grilled windows.

​Additionally, the weatherman warned of hazardous marine conditions, predicting ocean wave heights exceeding two meters along the coast starting Sunday, October 25, and advised fishers, mariners, and coastal operators to suspend offshore activities.

The wet spell follows a period of delayed onset for the seasonal October–November–December rains, which had experienced prolonged dry and hot conditions in several parts of the country.
