NDC Gives Update on 2027 Campaign Council, Reveals Plan
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that its National Campaign Council will coordinate the campaigns of all its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, disclosed this after holding meetings with its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) to discuss preparations for the forthcoming elections.
According to Dickson, the party is adopting a coordinated campaign strategy that will involve its presidential candidate, National Assembly candidates, governorship candidates and state houses of assembly candidates.
In a statement shared on X following his return from a working trip overseas, Dickson said Obi visited him, while Lawal also joined discussions on the party’s readiness for the 2027 general elections.
He said, “Following my return from a working trip overseas, I received our Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Peter Obi, CON, who paid me a visit.
“I also received the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, His Excellency Engr. Babachir Lawal, a senior member and leader of our great party, the NDC. Together, we held very fruitful discussions on the state of the party, particularly our readiness for the 2027 general elections.”
The former Bayelsa State governor explained that the NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, later joined the meeting alongside members of the NWC.
According to him, he subsequently held another meeting with the party’s national leadership, with Lawal also in attendance, during which they discussed preparations for the inauguration of the campaign council.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the official unveiling and inauguration of the council is scheduled for Monday, October 26.
Dickson said the party’s chairman and members of the NWC briefed them on arrangements for the event, adding that the discussions showed that the party’s leaders and candidates were united in their approach to the 2027 elections.
“The Chairman and the NWC briefed us on preparations for the official unveiling and inauguration of our National Campaign Council, scheduled for Monday,” he said.
“The discussions were very fruitful, and I am happy that all our party leaders and candidates are on the same page.”
Dickson explained that the campaign council would not be limited to Obi’s presidential campaign but would coordinate the activities of every NDC candidate contesting the elections.
He said the council would be known as the NDC National Campaign Council and would provide a common platform for the party’s candidates and leaders to work towards their electoral objectives.
“Our unique campaign council will coordinate the campaigns of all our party’s candidates, from the presidential candidate to the National Assembly, governorships and state houses of assembly. It will be known as the NDC National Campaign Council,” he stated.
The NDC leader added that the party intended to make the campaign a collective responsibility, with candidates and leaders at all levels actively participating in the process rather than leaving the presidential candidate to carry the burden alone.
“This will be a campaign for the entire NDC, from top to bottom, with all candidates and party leaders actively involved and taking ownership of the process,” Dickson said.
He disclosed that further discussions and consultations would continue ahead of the party’s planned event next week, expressing confidence in the leadership’s ability to present a united front to Nigerians.
Dickson thanked Nigerians for their confidence in the party and assured supporters that its leaders would work together to communicate its message nationwide.
“I thank all Nigerians for their confidence and support. I assure them that our leaders are united and on the same page, and we will take the NDC message to every nook and cranny of Nigeria,” he said.
He added, “From next week, we will paint the whole country blue.”
The NDC had earlier announced a change in the date for the unveiling and inauguration of its National Campaign Council. The event, initially scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, was moved to Monday, October 26, following a change in the schedule of its presidential candidate.
In a statement issued on October 19, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said the postponement was necessary because of Obi’s overseas engagement.
“The NDC Leadership has announced a new date for the unveiling and inauguration of its National Campaign Council (NCC) earlier slated for Tuesday, 20th October, 2026. The event will now be held on Monday, 26th October, 2026,” the statement read.
The party apologised for any inconvenience caused by the change and urged members and supporters to remain focused on securing victory for Obi and other NDC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
Obi is seeking the presidency on the NDC platform alongside his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
