NDC election: Voting continues in Nkwanta South as curfew deadline looms

Voting is still underway in the Nkwanta South Constituency of the Oti Region as delays linked to discrepancies and challenges with ballot paper issuance threaten to prolong the exercise.

The election, which was scheduled to run from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., involves about 1,483 delegates expected to elect executives to lead the constituency.

With the daily curfew in Nkwanta South and surrounding communities taking effect at 8:00 p.m. and lasting until 5:00 a.m., concerns are mounting over whether election officials will have enough time to complete voting, collate the results and declare the winners before the restrictions begin.

The curfew, imposed as part of measures to maintain peace and security in the area, covers Nkwanta and several other communities in the municipality.

The Interior Ministry has urged residents to exercise restraint and comply with the restrictions.

The NDC constituency elections form part of the party’s nationwide reorganisation exercise to elect grassroots executives ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The polls are scheduled for October 24 and 25, 2026.

Adom News’ Obrempongba K. Owusu remains on the ground monitoring developments as delegates await the completion of the exercise and the declaration of results.
