Kaizer Chiefs crash out of CAF Confederation Cup after penalty defeat to Red Arrows

Kaizer Chiefs were knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup on Friday after losing 3-2 on penalties to Zambia’s Red Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The Soweto giants won the second leg 1-0 through Bradley Cross’s header in the second half, which levelled the aggregate score at 1-1 after losing the first leg in Ndola.

Despite dominating the game and creating several chances, Chiefs could not find a winner in normal time. Mduduzi Shabalala missed two clear opportunities that could have sealed progression.

The tie went to a penalty shootout where Lebohang Maboe, Reeve Frosler and Ethan Chislett missed their kicks, allowing Red Arrows to advance to the group stage.

The defeat means Chiefs will not play continental football this season and piles pressure on coach Fernando da Cruz ahead of crucial domestic games against TS Galaxy and Orlando
