Jonathan Said Members Of His Cabinet Were Working For B’Haram, But He Could Not Do Anything-Olawunmi

Retired Commodore Kunle Olawunmi, former Commandant of the Defence Intelligence College and former Deputy Director of Defence Administration at Defence Headquarters, has claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan told him that some members of his cabinet were working for Boko Haram against the Nigerian state.

Olawunmi made this claim during an interview on State Affairs with Edmund Obilo on Saturday, October 24, 2026, while discussing allegations of government officials sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria.

According to the retired military officer, Jonathan had disclosed that some members of his cabinet were allegedly working with Boko Haram, despite holding positions within the government. Olawunmi further claimed that the former president knew the individuals involved but was unable to take action against them.

“Jonathan said there are members of his cabinet that are working for Boko Haram against the state, he knows them, but he cannot do anything about them,” Olawunmi said.

The allegation raises questions about the challenges faced by the Jonathan administration during the period when Boko Haram intensified its insurgency in northeastern Nigeria. The group carried out attacks on communities, security formations and public institutions during Jonathan’s presidency, which lasted from 2010 to 2015.

Olawunmi’s account also adds to concerns about possible links between individuals in positions of authority and terrorist organisations operating in the country. However, he did not identify the alleged cabinet members in the extract provided or explain the circumstances under which Jonathan purportedly made the statement.
