John Mbadi Issues Statement on Becoming President Ruto’s Running Mate in 2027 Elections

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has reportedly ruled out pursuing the Deputy President’s position, saying his long-term political ambition is to become President after William Ruto’s tenure.

Speaking during a meeting with KANU professionals in Kisumu County, Mbadi said his immediate priority was to strengthen President Ruto’s campaign machinery ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The meeting brought together several elected leaders, including Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr Mathews Owili, Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron, Muhoroni MP Onyango Koyoo, Nyando MP Jared Okello and former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma.

The leaders pledged to mobilise support for Ruto’s bid for a second term, signalling their commitment to his re-election campaign.

Mbadi’s reported declaration adds a new dimension to discussions about his political future, particularly as leaders position themselves ahead of the next election.

For now, the Treasury CS has maintained that supporting Ruto’s re-election remains his priority. His reported presidential ambitions could, however, shape future political conversations in Nyanza, a region where alliances and loyalties will be important in determining the country’s political direction.
