Jennifer Oppong Claims Hawa Koomson Is The Only Figure Capable Of Safeguarding The NPP

Political commentator Jennifer Oppong has sparked internal debate within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following a satirical yet pointed Facebook post claiming that Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson is the sole figure capable of protecting the party’s future.

In her post published on her Facebook Page on October 23, 2026, titled “The only person who can protect the NPP is Hawa Koomson,” Oppong used sharp humor to highlight Koomson’s fiery political style. She playfully suggested that the party needs to equip Koomson with “millions of pepper spray”—referencing Koomson’s infamous “one women organizer, one pepper spray” remark—to shield the NPP from opposition pressure. In the same commentary, Oppong dismissed rival internal figures, including Kojo Bamba, asserting that few leaders possess Koomson’s level of combativeness.

Oppong’s satire highlights a broader conversation within Ghanaian politics regarding leadership style, grassroots mobilization, and party defense. By positioning Koomson’s aggressive persona as a symbol of resilience, the post underscores the NPP’s ongoing search for tough, visible figures who can rally the party base and counter political threats ahead of upcoming electoral contests.

While Oppong’s comments were delivered with hyperbole, political observers note that they reflect genuine strategic tensions within the NPP. Party loyalists remain divided between embracing aggressive, high-energy politicians who project strength and prioritizing moderate figures focused on policy, governance, and public credibility.

Ultimately, Oppong’s viral commentary serves as both a lighthearted jab and a strategic reflection, prompting the NPP leadership and its supporters to evaluate what type of political brand and personal strength will best secure the party’s survival and electoral success in the battles ahead.
