Ibrahim Mahama’s Mining Operations Bringing Development To Damang – Yandoh

Ibrahim Mahama’s Mining Operations Bringing Development To Damang – Yandoh

According to a report by Ghana web on Saturday October 24, 2026, former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Communications Director, Paul Yandoh, has praised Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama for what he describes as the positive impact of his mining operations on development in Damang and surrounding communities.

Yandoh’s commendation comes amid growing public attention surrounding the management of Damang Mine by Engineers and Planners (E&P), the indigenous Ghanaian mining company owned by Ibrahim Mahama.

The company took over the mine in April 2026 following a competitive bidding process after the expiration of the previous operator’s lease.

The transition has raised expectations among residents, traditional leaders and other stakeholders, particularly regarding employment opportunities, infrastructure development and the extent to which mining activities can improve living conditions in host communities.

According to reports on the development, Yandoh has acknowledged the contribution of Mahama’s mining operations to the progress of Damang, highlighting the importance of investments that translate into tangible benefits for communities hosting major natural-resource projects.

The takeover of Damang Mine has been accompanied by commitments to improve infrastructure and expand economic opportunities in the area.

At the handover ceremony in April, Mahama outlined plans for an airport or airstrip to improve connectivity between Damang and Accra, alongside road projects intended to make travel and the transportation of goods easier.

He also pledged to support the construction of artificial football pitches in communities around the mine, describing his development plans as a practical commitment rather than political rhetoric.

“I beg you, this is not political talk. This is real talk,” Mahama said at the ceremony, stressing his determination to demonstrate that Ghanaian businesses could successfully invest in and manage major projects within the country.

The proposed infrastructure projects are expected to improve access to the mining area, support commercial activities and create opportunities for residents and businesses.

However, the long-term impact will depend on the implementation and completion of the announced initiatives.

Beyond infrastructure, the new management has also outlined measures intended to ensure that residents benefit directly from mining activities.

These include commitments to local employment and the establishment of a community development fund supported by a portion of the mine’s gold production.

Under the announced arrangement, the company intends to accumulate funds over three years before management and traditional leaders jointly determine which development projects should receive priority.

The company has also indicated that 60 per cent of its workforce should be drawn from host communities, with the remaining 40 per cent open to other Ghanaians.

These measures are intended to strengthen the relationship between the mining company and surrounding communities while ensuring that some of the economic benefits generated by gold production remain within the local economy.

Damang Mine, located in Ghana’s Western Region, is an important part of the country’s gold-mining industry.

The change in ownership represents a significant opportunity for a locally owned company to demonstrate its ability to manage a major mining operation while balancing commercial objectives with community development.

Yandoh’s praise for Ibrahim Mahama therefore adds to the public discussion about the role of Ghanaian entrepreneurs in national development and the importance of ensuring that the country’s mineral resources generate benefits beyond the mining sites themselves.

As operations continue under Engineers and Planners, residents will be watching closely to see how the development commitments translate into completed infrastructure, sustainable jobs and improved living conditions.
