“I Made a Big Sacrifice” Gideon Moi Reveals What Ruto Had Promised Him After the Death Of Raila
KANU party leader Gideon Moi has accused President William Ruto of deceiving him and breaching their political agreement, saying he made sacrifices for the benefit of the government but was later abandoned and subjected to attacks alongside his family.
Speaking at his home in Kabarak, Nakuru County, on Friday, Mr Moi said he had trusted the President and agreed to work with him out of respect for the presidency, but the promises they had agreed upon were never fulfilled.
He revealed that before Dr Ruto visited Kabarak on October 10, 2025, several discussions had taken place aimed at easing political tensions between them.
During that meeting, the President announced an agreement to work with KANU ahead of the 2027 General Election. Mr Moi withdrew his bid to seek re-election as Baringo Senator and allowed the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party to field its candidate in the subsequent by-election.
However, Mr Moi said things began to change following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on October 15, 2025.
He said he had been asked to wait until the government completed Raila’s state funeral, but even after several months had passed, the promises remained unfulfilled.
“After Raila’s death, I was told to wait and that the agreement would be implemented later. I waited until December, then Easter. I followed up, but I am still waiting,” he said.
Mr Moi said he had fulfilled his part of the agreement by withdrawing from the Senate race, ensuring KANU did not field a candidate, and promising to support the President, including by organising meetings with elders.
He said he had never asked the President for business deals or personal benefits, but wanted professionals from his community to be given government jobs and residents of Baringo to be considered in appointments.
“Throughout these discussions, I was the one who made the greatest sacrifices. There are people who no longer speak to me because of that agreement; they felt betrayed,” he said.
