I Lost Everything, I Was Jailed For Mahama – But I Will Keep Quiet – Nigel Gaisie
According to remarks made in a recent interview, popular Ghanaian preacher Prophet Nigel Gaisie has spoken about the difficulties he claims to have experienced under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government after prophesying that John Dramani Mahama would return to the presidency.
The founder of Prophetic Hill Chapel alleged that his support for Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), alongside his prophecy about the election outcome, subjected him to arrests, detention and persistent harassment. He maintained that the experience affected his personal life, ministry and emotional well-being.
Reflecting on the challenges he faced, Gaisie said his prophecy became a source of trouble for him during the previous administration. He alleged that he suffered financial losses, lost his home and faced insults and intimidation because of his religious declarations concerning Mahama’s political future.
“Everything I had is ruined – all because I prophesied that Mahama would be president again, as revealed to me by God,” he lamented.
The preacher further claimed that the difficulties extended to members of his congregation and people associated with his church. According to him, two judges who attended his services allegedly faced pressure to stop visiting the church.
Gaisie described the period as particularly difficult because he was a young man committed to his religious calling. He said the treatment he experienced left him struggling to cope with the situation.
“I never had it easy. As a young man, dedicated to my faith, they tore me down,” he said.
He also disclosed that the alleged experiences affected his mental and emotional state to such an extent that he contemplated taking his own life.
“I nearly took my life because of the trauma NPP were putting me through,” he disclosed.
Despite the experiences he described, Gaisie says he does not intend to make statements that could distract the current government, now that Mahama and the NDC are back in power.
“I was arrested and detained because of President Mahama and the NDC; I don’t want to say anything that will distract the government,” he said.
He explained that he wants the administration to concentrate on governance rather than become involved in disputes connected to past political disagreements. He also acknowledged that he was not perfect and maintained that anyone who commits an offence should face the law rather than experience personal vilification.
His comments have renewed attention on the relationship between political affiliations, religious leaders and freedom of expression in Ghana.
