Gwede Mantashe Has Sent Strong Message to All ANC Councillors this Evening, Check Out What He Said
African National Congress (ANC) heavyweight Gwede Mantashe has called for tough action against councillors who allegedly exploit vulnerable people by demanding sexual favours in exchange for employment opportunities, insisting that those found guilty must face imprisonment.
Mantashe stressed that public office should never be used to prey on people desperate for jobs, emphasising the need for ethical leadership, accountability and respect for human dignity.
In a firm message, he said councillors who make employment opportunities conditional on sexual favours must be reported to the relevant authorities, thoroughly investigated and prosecuted where sufficient evidence exists.
“Any councillor who promises jobs in exchange for sexual favours must be reported, investigated, prosecuted &, if found guilty, imprisoned,” Mantashe said.
He added that abusing public office to exploit vulnerable individuals was unacceptable and that ethical leadership should remain a fundamental requirement for anyone entrusted with public responsibility.
“Public office must never be abused to exploit vulnerable people. Ethical leadership & respect for human dignity is non-negotiable,” he said.
Mantashe’s remarks highlight the serious concerns surrounding the alleged abuse of power by public representatives, particularly when individuals seeking employment are placed in vulnerable positions.
In a country grappling with high unemployment, job seekers can face significant pressure when trying to secure opportunities. Allegations that people in positions of authority demand sexual favours in return for employment raise questions about accountability, the protection of vulnerable citizens and the ethical conduct expected from public officials.
Such conduct, where proven, can undermine public trust in local government and expose desperate job seekers to exploitation and abuse.
The call for reporting and prosecution also places emphasis on ensuring that allegations are handled through appropriate legal channels, allowing authorities to investigate complaints and establish the facts before criminal responsibility is determined.
Mantashe’s position is clear: councillors and other public representatives should not use their positions to demand personal benefits from people seeking assistance or employment.
The message reinforces the importance of creating safe channels through which victims and witnesses can report alleged misconduct without fear of intimidation or retaliation.
It also underscores the need for public institutions to take complaints seriously and ensure that investigations are conducted fairly and transparently.
For Mantashe, the principle is straightforward: public office is a responsibility, not an opportunity to exploit others.
His warning leaves little room for ambiguity about the consequences he believes councillors should face if found guilty of demanding sexual favours in exchange for jobs.
