God Will Punish That Man — Shatta Wale Blasts Former IGP Dampare Over His Arrest and Imprisonment
According to a report by GhanaWeb on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has criticised former Inspector-General of Police George Akuffo Dampare over his arrest and imprisonment, arguing that the incident has left a lasting mark on his personal record and could affect him whenever he travels outside the country.
The musician expressed his displeasure during a TikTok Live session, where he spoke about the consequences of his encounter with the law and questioned why he had to go through the experience despite not being accused of stealing, killing or robbing anyone.
Shatta Wale, known for songs such as On God, appeared frustrated as he reflected on the circumstances surrounding his time in custody, insisting that the experience had placed him in a difficult position whenever questions arose about his criminal history.
He explained that having been imprisoned meant he would have to acknowledge the experience if asked about it during international travel, a situation he believes could affect how others perceive him.
“Dampare has added jail to my life records. If I’m travelling and they ask whether I’ve been to jail before, I’ll have to say yes. Ah! Why did I go to jail? I didn’t go to jail because I stole, killed or robbed anyone. God will punish that man! What kind of dent have you put on my life like that?” he said.
The dancehall musician directly blamed Dampare for what he described as damage to his reputation, expressing anger over the circumstances that led to his detention and questioning the impact the incident had on his life.
The incident dates back to 2021, when Shatta Wale and three other individuals were arrested in connection with the publication of false information about an alleged shooting involving the musician.
Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., appeared before an Accra Circuit Court alongside Kojo Owusu Koranteng, Idris Yusif and Eric Venator, where they were remanded into custody for one week as proceedings began.
The artiste pleaded not guilty to the charge of publishing false news and causing fear and panic, while the three other individuals faced charges of abetment of crime and also denied the allegations against them.
The case followed a prophecy by Bishop Stephen Kwesi Appiah, popularly known as Jesus Ahoufe, who leads New Life Kingdom Chapel and had predicted that the musician would be shot dead, prompting concerns surrounding the alleged shooting report.
Jesus Ahoufe was subsequently arrested and charged with causing fear and panic over the prophecy, which became connected to the events that led to Shatta Wale’s arrest.
Shatta Wale’s latest comments show that he continues to regard the episode as a significant personal setback, with his main concern centred on how his imprisonment has become part of his record and the questions he may face when travelling abroad.
