Former ANC Members Join FF Plus
The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) is looking to grow its support ahead of South Africa’s anticipated November 4 local government elections by bringing former African National Congress (ANC) members into its campaign.
The party has reportedly nominated former ANC members to contest wards in Mabopane, Tshwane, and Soweto, Johannesburg. Both areas have traditionally been associated with strong ANC support.
Siphiwe Mhlongo is expected to contest a ward in Mabopane, while Daniel Makgobola is set to represent the FF Plus in Soweto.
Their involvement signals an attempt by the FF Plus to attract voters who may be unhappy with the performance of their local municipalities and are considering other political parties.
The decision to field former ANC members could help the FF Plus reach communities where it has struggled to gain significant support in the past.
Having candidates with experience in established political structures may also help the party better understand local issues and connect with residents.
As the elections approach, service delivery is likely to remain a key concern for voters. Many communities continue to demand better roads, reliable water and electricity, improved waste collection and greater accountability from municipal leaders.
The move could add a new dimension to the political contest in Mabopane and Soweto, where parties are expected to compete for residents’ support.
With the November 4 elections approaching, it remains to be seen whether the FF Plus can turn the recruitment of former ANC members into meaningful electoral gains.
