Aston Villa beat Manchester City 2-1 in their Premier League clash at Villa Park on Saturday, with Nicolas Jackson scoring twice to secure victory for the hosts.
Jackson opened the scoring in the sixth minute, finishing a move assisted by John McGinn to give Villa an early lead.
Manchester City responded after the break, with Erling Haaland heading home Iliman Ndiaye’s cross in the 52nd minute to draw the visitors level.
Villa restored their advantage eight minutes later when Jackson scored his second goal of the match, with Ibrahim Mbaye providing the assist in the 60th minute.
City made two changes at half-time, bringing on Phil Foden and Rico Lewis for Rayan Cherki and Marc Guehi as they sought to turn the game around.
Villa also made several substitutions in the second half, including introducing Mbaye, Emiliano Buendia and Ross Barkley.
The match saw yellow cards for City’s Cherki, Guehi, Ryan McAidoo and Elliot Anderson, while Villa’s Johan Manzambi, Matty Cash and Brian Madjo were also booked.
Villa held on to their 2-1 lead through stoppage time to claim the victory at home.
The result ended Manchester City’s bid to win their first eight Premier League matches of the season, having started the campaign with seven consecutive victories. City entered the matchday top of the table with 21 points, while Villa were 12th with eight points.
The victory also extended Villa’s winning run against City in the league to three matches, following their 1-0 home victory in October 2025 and 2-1 away win in May 2026.
Villa had also won four of their previous six Premier League meetings with City before Saturday’s encounter.
City, managed by Enzo Maresca, had arrived in Birmingham after a 5-1 Champions League victory over AEK Athens, while Unai Emery’s Villa had beaten Viking FK 3-1 in Europe.
