Bentil Fires At Alan Over Possible NPP Return
According to a report by TV3 Ghana on October 24, 2026, Vice President of policy think tank IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, has dismissed the possibility of Alan Kyerematen returning to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to lead it into the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on the matter, Mr. Bentil questioned the basis of any such ambition, asking what makes Mr. Kyerematen believe he can come back to the party and lead it into the next general elections. He then stated emphatically, “It will never happen.”
The comment follows recent remarks by Mr. Kyerematen indicating that he would be willing to return to the NPP as its flagbearer if the party extended an invitation to him. Mr. Bentil’s response appears to be a direct rebuttal of that position.
The development comes at a time when Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the party’s current flagbearer. Against this backdrop, Mr. Bentil’s remarks suggest that, in his view, the political and internal party realities make any such return to the party’s leadership highly unlikely.
His statement has added to the ongoing debate about whether the party could, or should, reconcile with former members who left under contentious circumstances.
Political observers note that questions about leadership, unity and succession are likely to dominate discussions within the NPP as the 2028 race draws closer. Whether the party has any plans to extend such an invitation was not made clear in the report.
At the time of publishing, there had been no response from Mr. Kyerematen or his camp to Mr. Bentil’s comments.
The statement has since drawn attention on social media, where Ghanaians continue to weigh in on the possible direction of the country’s major political parties ahead of the next election cycle.
