Andre Ayew has my support if he decides to contest for GFA presidency – Kwame Sefa Kayi

Award-winning broadcaster Kwame Sefa Kayi has declared his support for former Ghana captain Andre Ayew to become president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Sefa Kayi says Ghana football needs a change in leadership and believes Ayew could be a candidate for the position as pressure mounts on the administration of current president Kurt Okraku.

Speaking on Peace FM, the veteran journalist said he would support Ayew if the former Black Stars captain decides to contest the GFA presidency.

“If he has not declared, then I am declaring for him. If Dede [Ayew] decides to contest, I will support him, and I wish everybody would do the same so that there will be changes,” Sefa Kayi said.

“For this, I have declared that I am not saying I am biased. For this, I have an interest.”

Ayew has reportedly received calls from people within football urging him to consider a run for the presidency, but he has yet to publicly announce his intention to contest.

Several other individuals have expressed interest in the position ahead of the next GFA presidential election, scheduled for October 2027.

They include football administrator Samuel Annim Addo, former Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association chairman Ralph Gyambrah and Karela United chief executive officer Elloeny Amande.

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has also been linked with a possible bid for the position.

The contest is expected to draw attention as stakeholders debate the future direction of Ghanaian football and the leadership needed to address its challenges.
