African National Congress (ANC) leader in the City of Cape Town Ndithini Tyhido resigned from council just days before the local government elections, amid a pending disciplinary process over his alleged failure to attend meetings.

Tyhido was facing disciplinary action by the Democratic Alliance (DA)-led council.

However, he denied that the process had anything to do with his resignation.

Tyhido said he was never formally charged with missing council or council committee meetings.

Tyhido said: “There was a DC in relation to my non-attendance of virtual meetings of a sub council. The rules that apply to council and committee meetings do not apply to sub councils.”

He described the disciplinary process as a political concoction by the DA.

Tyhido said: “The Democratic Alliance being the DA wanted to simply embarrass an ANC leader. My resignation has got nothing to do with that being the case. My resignation was that I will not waste time entertaining such nonsense; I would rather go and dedicate my time to the campaign of the ANC.”
