William Ruto Braces for Hostile Reception as Mount Kenya Leaders Set Tough Conditions for His Tour

President William Ruto is set to visit the Central Kenya region in what is shaping up to be a politically charged tour.

The visit comes amid growing discontent from some leaders and residents who feel sidelined in key government appointments and development projects.

Allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have signaled their intention to confront President Ruto over several issues affecting the region.

Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu has been vocal about the need for Ruto to explain his administration’s decisions that have reportedly marginalized Central Kenya.

According to Nyutu, the President should focus on updating the region on previously initiated projects rather than launching new ones.

“We don’t want him to come here and start new projects while the ones he promised remain incomplete. He must also address the concerns of our people,” Nyutu stated.

Gatanga MP Edward Muriu has also issued a strong warning to the President, advising him against discussing certain sensitive matters during his visit.

Among the topics that could trigger a hostile reception are the rumored impeachment of Gachagua and Ruto’s growing alliance with opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Muriu cautioned that these issues could deepen divisions in the region, making the President’s tour even more complicated.

To mitigate the tensions, President Ruto has engaged Central Kenya leaders to strategize ahead of the visit.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki recently held a consultative meeting with Members of Parliament from Laikipia, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Embu, Meru, and Tharaka Nithi.

The meeting focused on reviewing the progress of key government programs and development projects in the region.

During the tour, the President is expected to commission and inspect several major projects, including the Kenol-Marua dual carriageway and the ongoing construction of Mau Mau roads in Murang’a, Nyeri, and Nyandarua counties.

These projects are seen as an effort to reaffirm the government’s commitment to the economic development of the region.

Despite these efforts, some local leaders remain skeptical about Ruto’s visit, arguing that the region has not received its fair share of appointments in government.

They insist that the President must provide clear answers on why many key positions have gone to other regions while Central Kenya played a significant role in his election victory.
