Wahala App, NIIA partner on AI security intelligence

Nigerian technology company, Wahala App Ltd, has partnered with the General Leo Irabor Early Warning Systems Centre (GLIC) of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) and real-time data analytics for security intelligence and business risk management.

The partnership aims to strengthen early warning capabilities by combining citizen-generated incident reports with AI-powered analytics to identify emerging threats, monitor security trends and support timely decision-making by businesses, government institutions and other organisations.

In a statement issued in Lagos, Wahala App said the collaboration would give GLIC access to its Wahala Network, a digital platform that aggregates incident reports from individuals, businesses and participating organisations to identify security risks and potential operational disruptions.

The platform’s analytical tools can help organisations detect recurring incidents, identify vulnerabilities and assess how security developments could affect logistics, supply chains, personnel and other critical operations.

Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Wahala App, Oriekaose Agholor, said the partnership would connect citizen participation with institutional early warning systems and expand access to real-time security information.

“Safety is a shared responsibility, and timely information can help people make more informed decisions about their surroundings. Our partnership with GLIC is an important step towards connecting citizen participation with wider early warning efforts,” he said.

Agholor added that the company was seeking partnerships with government agencies, corporate organisations and other institutions to widen access to actionable security intelligence.

He said businesses on the network could receive alerts about incidents that might require changes to transportation routes, logistics plans and personnel safety measures.

Acting Head of GLIC, Dr Omotola Ilesanmi, said reliable information and technology were increasingly important to risk management and institutional preparedness.

“Effective early warning depends on the timely identification of risks and the availability of reliable information to support informed decision-making,” Ilesanmi said, adding that technology and citizen participation could improve awareness and preparedness.

Wahala App also highlighted its Ambassadors Against Wahala programme, which promotes responsible incident reporting and safety awareness in workplaces, schools, religious organisations and communities.

The company said its platform allows users to report incidents, receive location-relevant alerts and send emergency notifications to designated contacts.

It stressed that the technology was designed to complement, not replace, the responsibilities of government security agencies and emergency response institutions.
