Video Emerges Capturing Ruto Announcing Plans to Allow Taller Buildings in Eastleigh
A video showing President William Ruto discussing plans to allow taller buildings in Eastleigh, Nairobi, has gone viral following the collapse of a building on Friday.
In the clip, the President is seen addressing residents and explaining a change to the height limit for buildings in the area.
According to the video, Ruto says that Eastleigh previously had restrictions preventing buildings from exceeding 12 floors. He then announces that developers would be allowed to construct buildings reaching 25 or even 30 floors.
He explains that allowing taller buildings would help accommodate more people in the neighbourhood and support harmonious living.
The video has attracted attention as residents and the public react to reports of the latest building collapse in Eastleigh. The incident has brought renewed focus to the safety of multi-storey buildings in the area.
The collapse on Friday has also raised questions about construction standards, building approvals and the enforcement of safety requirements for high-rise developments.
However, the President’s remarks in the circulating video concern the proposed increase in permitted building heights. The clip alone does not establish the cause of the collapsed building or whether the structure had complied with all the required construction standards.
Building height limits and construction safety requirements are separate issues, and permission to build additional floors does not remove the need to comply with approved plans and applicable safety regulations.
