Truth Out: NPP Is Praying For President Mahama To Fail
Political scientist and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) lecturer Dr. Kwasi Amakye Boateng has expressed concern about Ghana’s political climate, suggesting that some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may be hoping President John Dramani Mahama’s administration struggles to govern effectively.
According to JoyNews, Dr. Amakye Boateng made the observation during a media interview, arguing that certain NPP figures may be dissatisfied with Mahama’s return to power in 2025. He suggested that some political opponents could be anticipating difficulties under the current administration, potentially hoping to use such setbacks to strengthen their chances of regaining power in a future election.
The lecturer criticised what he described as a political culture in which electoral victory takes precedence over cooperation and national development. He argued that wishing for an incumbent government to fail for partisan advantage undermines the country’s collective interests.
Dr. Amakye Boateng stressed that the consequences of poor governance extend beyond the ruling party, affecting citizens across political affiliations. He warned that prioritising political competition over public welfare could damage Ghana’s long-term development prospects.
He maintained that leaders from all political backgrounds should support initiatives aimed at addressing the country’s challenges, regardless of which party controls the government. According to him, constructive cooperation would serve the national interest better than attempts to exploit difficulties for political gain.
He therefore urged both the NPP and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to engage in peaceful, respectful dialogue and place citizens’ welfare above partisan considerations.
His remarks have generated debate, with some agreeing that political cooperation is essential while others defend their parties’ positions. Ultimately, his message highlights the importance of unity, responsible opposition and shared commitment to Ghana’s progress.
