Tope Alabi Threatens Legal Action Over Social Media Posts
Popular Nigerian gospel singer Tope Alabi has threatened legal action against individuals who publish or share statements she considers false and damaging to her reputation on social media.
The warning was contained in a public notice issued by her lawyers, Oakmount Legal Practitioners, and shared on her Instagram page on Friday, October 23, 2026.
In the notice, the legal team identified the singer by her full name, Evangelist Patricia Temitope Alabi, and stated that she had instructed them to take steps to protect her personal, professional, and spiritual reputation.
According to the lawyers, she has spent nearly 30 years building a reputation based on integrity, honor, and public trust.
The legal team also expressed concern over what it described as false and misleading statements circulating about her. It warned that those responsible for publishing such content could face legal consequences.
The lawyers further cautioned social media users against reposting, forwarding, or sharing potentially defamatory statements, noting that legal responsibility may extend beyond the original author, depending on the circumstances.
They also explained that using anonymous or pseudonymous accounts does not automatically protect individuals from legal liability.
As part of the warning, the legal team urged anyone who had already published material considered defamatory to remove it and avoid circulating it further.
