Today’s Headlines: Vote Tinubu or Lose Coastal Highway — Umahi; ‘You Impoverished Nigerians’ — OBJ
Minister of Works, David Umahi, says the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway may not be completed if President Bola Tinubu fails to secure a second term in 2027.
Umahi disclosed this on Friday while speaking in an exclusive interview on Arise Television.
According to him, the 750-kilometre road is a personal initiative of President Tinubu and needs continuity to be fully delivered, saying that only Tinubu’s return can guarantee the completion of the project and other legacy roads across the country.
The former Ebonyi State governor also dismissed reports that the coastal highway had been abandoned for the East-West Road.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has accused President Bola Tinubu of making every Nigerian poor by 300 per cent through the devaluation of the naira, saying the policy has turned Nigeria into “the poverty capital of the world.”
Obasanjo spoke on Wednesday at the Financial Times Africa Summit 2026 in London, United Kingdom.
He said the naira lost its value overnight due to economic reforms undertaken by the Tinubu administration in 2023.
The statesman argued, “We do not live in isolation as a country. We interact with the rest of the world. And overnight, you devalue the currency by 300 per cent. The naira went from N500 to a dollar to N1,500 to a dollar. What that meant was that every Nigerian is made poor by 300 per cent.”
Five Islamic clerics abducted by bandits in Zamfara State after attending a prayer gathering for President Bola Tinubu have remained in captivity 41 days after their abduction.
The development was disclosed by Bakatsine, a conflict reporter covering northwestern Nigeria, in a post on X on Friday.
“UPDATE: The Islamic scholars are still in the hands of bandits. Let us continue to remember them in our prayers and hope for their safe return,” he wrote.
Bakatsine appealed to Nigerians to continue praying for the clerics’ safe return, expressing hope that they would reunite with their families soon.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has said his support for Accord candidates in the 2027 legislative elections remains unchanged despite forming a coalition with the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
Adeleke said the coalition was strictly for Tinubu’s re-election in the January 2027 presidential election and would not extend to elections for the Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly.
The governor disclosed this in a post on his X account on Friday, following the inauguration of the Osun State Presidential Campaign Council for Tinubu’s re-election.
