Today’s Headlines: There is hardship but support Tinubu-Suswam; Obasanjo attacks Tinubu’s reforms

A former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has admitted that there is hardship in Nigeria, but citizens should support President Bola Tinubu in his drive to lay a solid foundation.

Suswam urged Nigerian youths to support Tinubu in his push to alleviate the current hardship being experienced in the country.

Speaking during the PBAT Door-to-Door rally in Makurdi, the Benue State capital on Friday, Suswam urged Nigerian youths to vote massively for Tinubu in 2027.

According to Suswam: “Come next January, you will vote massively for this man so that he can consolidate on these policies for your own future. Don’t listen to any propaganda that people are churning out, there is suffering now, but there is no way you can build a future without experiencing some pains, we must experience those pains for us to be better tomorrow.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has accused President Bola Tinubu of making every Nigerian poor by 300 per cent through the devaluation of the naira, saying the policy has turned Nigeria into “the poverty capital of the world.”

Obasanjo spoke on Wednesday at the Financial Times Africa Summit 2026 in London, United Kingdom.

He said the naira lost its value overnight due to economic reforms undertaken by the Tinubu administration in 2023.

The statesman argued, “We do not live in isolation as a country. We interact with the rest of the world. And overnight, you devalue the currency by 300 per cent. The naira went from N500 to a dollar to N1,500 to a dollar. What that meant was that every Nigerian is made poor by 300 per cent.”

The Ogun State Police Command has arraigned seven men before the Ilaro Magistrate Court over alleged unlawful possession of firearms, abduction of Amotekun operatives and stealing of a locally made single-barrel gun valued at N150,000.

The defendants are Dosunmu Amos, 34; Abisekun Seun, 22; Ojo Olanrewaju, 32; Joseph Aremu, 33; Alao Ileyemi, 30; Akeem Ege, 45; and Elijah Eriwole, 32.

They were arraigned before Chief Magistrate I, Ilaro, presided over by Mrs F.A. Ojelade, on Friday, on six counts of conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms, abduction, stealing, and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

According to the charge sheet No. M/27/2026 signed by ASP Adeboye Olayiwola, the defendants and others still at large, between October 14 and 15, 2026, at Alagbon area, Owode-Afon, in the Ilaro Magisterial District, allegedly conspired to commit felony, to wit: unlawful possession of firearms.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Pate, has said genomic analysis of the country’s confirmed Ebola case shows that the virus is closely related to the one identified in Kenya.

Pate, however, said the findings had not established a direct epidemiological link between Nigeria’s case and Kenya’s index case, adding that further investigations were needed to determine the possible route of transmission.

The minister disclosed this on Friday night while providing an update on Nigeria’s response to the outbreak alongside the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr Jide Idris.

He said the Federal Government was continuing contact tracing, testing and other public health interventions to prevent further transmission.

Ahead of the official flag off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign, the Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organization (MDPCO) has said President Bola Tinubu not to expect votes from the North because he has “betrayed” the region.

Richard Ihediwa, Director, strategic Communications of the APM Presidential campaign, alleged that President Tinubu’s policies and their “life-discounting consequences on millions of citizens have become scarlet letters for which Nigerians have rejected him and his party, the APC.”

The campaign said since President Tinubu decided to flag off his campaign in Kaduna, the political headquarters of the North, “we challenge him to explain what the region has gained from his incompetent and nepotic administration beyond a bumper harvest of bloodshed, crushing economic hardship, broken promises and shattered public trust.”

Ihediwa recalled that at the APC North-West campaign rally in Kaduna on December 13, 2022, Tinubu had declared that: “All those troublemakers, all those kidnappers, killers who are troubling the security of Kaduna and Northern Nigeria, I assure you, we will eliminate them.
