Sarkodie reveals unreleased songs with Daddy Lumba, pledges to champion Ghanaian music
Share on TwitterShare on Whatsapp Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has revealed that he has unreleased recordings with Highlife legend Daddy Lumba and expressed hope that the songs can be shared with fans.
Speaking in an interview on Y FM Kumasi, the rapper said that although he performs internationally, including in the United Kingdom, his priority is promoting Ghanaian music and helping put the country on the global music map.
Sarkodie made the remarks while discussing international collaborations, including a song with a prominent hip-hop artiste that never materialised.
He explained that some international collaborations had proved difficult to complete, citing challenges with securing clearance for a song he recorded with a major music producer whom he described as a close friend and someone behind many of Drake’s records.
“I know of a producer, a very huge producer, most of Drake’s records, and that’s a good friend of mine, and we did something and it was very difficult to get clearance,” he said.
“Maybe there might be, but I don’t know of a rapper,” he added.
Despite these challenges, Sarkodie said international collaborations remained a possibility, although they were not his immediate priority.
He emphasized that his current focus was on promoting Ghanaian music and giving local artistes and their musical heritage greater visibility.
“Yes, it’s very deliberate,” he said, underscoring his commitment to that direction.
Sarkodie opens up on recordings with Daddy Lumba
Discussing his collaborations with Ghanaian music legends, Sarkodie revealed that he had performed Daddy Lumba’s song “Anadwo Yi Dee” alongside the Highlife icon at one of his final events.
He also disclosed that the two had worked on music together, although the project was never completed for release.
“We were recording a project that was supposed to come out, but at a certain point we paused and we didn’t follow up, but we still have some that we did,” Sarkodie said.
The rapper expressed a desire to share the recordings with fans, describing the material documenting their musical collaboration as valuable.
“I documented almost everything about him and me recording a song,” he said. “It’s a beautiful asset we have, and we will love to share it with the fans.”
His remarks offer a glimpse into a musical collaboration between two prominent figures in Ghanaian music and raise the prospect of fans eventually hearing previously unreleased material from the pair.
Sarkodie names Ghanaian legends he hopes to work with
Beyond Daddy Lumba, Sarkodie said he would welcome opportunities to collaborate with other celebrated Ghanaian musicians, including Oheneba Kissi, Kojo Antwi and Amakye Dede.
He further disclosed that he had already recorded a song with Amakye Dede that remains unreleased.
The revelations reinforce Sarkodie’s interest in working with established Ghanaian musicians and preserving collaborations that connect different generations of the country’s music industry.
