Ruto’s PS Elijah Mwangi Inspects Progress Of 10,000-Seater Kidundu Stadium In Vihiga

PS Elijah Mwangi on Friday, October 23, inspected the progress of construction at Kidundu Stadium in Vihiga County, as the government targets completion of the modern sports facility in December 2026.

The 10,000-seater stadium is expected to provide a major boost to sports development in the region, giving athletes access to improved facilities while creating opportunities for young people interested in different sporting disciplines.

According to details shared during the inspection, the facility is being developed with a FIFA-standard football pitch, an eight-lane athletics track, modern changing rooms and VIP facilities.

These features are intended to support local competitions and provide a venue capable of hosting major sporting events.

However, the project extends beyond traditional sports infrastructure. Plans include ICT spaces, recording and film studios, innovation hubs and entrepreneurship centres designed to support young creatives and innovators.

The additional facilities could help expand opportunities for young people seeking careers in technology, entertainment and business, alongside those pursuing professional sporting careers.

Construction activities have also provided employment opportunities for young people, while local businesses and suppliers have benefited from demand for goods and services associated with the project.

Kidundu Stadium is expected to become an important landmark in Vihiga, a county known for its scenic landscapes, cultural heritage and granite resources.

The government has positioned the project as part of its broader investment in sports infrastructure under President William Ruto, with the aim of linking sporting talent to economic empowerment.

For residents, the anticipated completion represents an opportunity to access improved sporting facilities closer to home rather than depend entirely on venues in other counties.
