The partially decomposed body of a 25-year-old man was found trapped between the ceiling and roof tiles of a house in Kwa-Thema, Springs, on Friday.
The City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (Dems) recovered the body from the house in Moeketsane Street after neighbours raised the alarm over a foul smell.
Dems spokesperson William Ntladi said rescue teams from Brakpan and Kwa-Thema fire stations were activated after paramedics approached the Brakpan fire station for assistance.
On arrival, the teams followed the smell and discovered the body wedged between the ceiling and metal roof tiles. The man’s body was brought to the ground using a specialised stretcher and ropes.
It is alleged the man was electrocuted, as side-cutting pliers and a snapped electrical cable were found next to him.
The occupant of the house reportedly told the teams he was unaware of the situation.
The scene was handed over to the South African Police Service. Forensic Pathology Services was called to remove the body to a facility in Springs.
