Not Qualified? Bad News for Sifuna as His Presidential Ambitions Hit a Roadblock Ahead of 2027
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has sent a strong message to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna over his presidential ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Wetang’ula made the remarks on Friday, October 23, 2026, while speaking in Vihiga County, where he questioned whether Sifuna had enough political experience to become Kenya’s next president.
“There is no miracle of someone becoming an MP today and becoming President tomorrow,” Wetang’ula said.
His remarks come as Sifuna continues to express confidence in his chances of winning the presidency in 2027. The Nairobi senator has been associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, which is seeking to build support across the country.
Wetang’ula argued that becoming president requires more than ambition. He said a leader needs experience, national connections and enough time to understand the needs of different communities.
To support his argument, the Speaker referred to former presidents Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki, Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto, noting that they had spent years in politics before taking the country’s top office.
Wetang’ula also said the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga gained considerable political experience during his years in public service, even though he never became president.
The Speaker maintained that Sifuna would need to build stronger political networks and gain more experience before seeking the country’s highest office.
However, Sifuna has rejected suggestions that he is too inexperienced to lead Kenya. He has expressed confidence that his movement can make a strong impact in the 2027 election.
The exchange highlights the growing political debate over leadership experience as politicians position themselves ahead of the next general election.
With the election approaching, Kenyans are likely to hear more arguments about experience, leadership records and the ability of different candidates to address the country’s challenges.
Ultimately, voters will decide who becomes president when they cast their ballots in 2027.
Do you think Sifuna can win the presidency in 2027 despite Wetang’ula’s concerns about his experience?
