Nigeria 3-1 North Korea: Adegbuyi, Umejiaku, Yusuf fire Flamingos into round of 16

According to a report by Flashscore on Friday, October 23, 2026, Nigeria’s Flamingos secured qualification for the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after defeating defending champions North Korea 3-1 in their final Group B fixture.

The Nigerian side produced an impressive performance at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco, scoring twice in the first half before adding a third goal after the interval to seal their second victory of the tournament.

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi gave the Flamingos the lead in the 15th minute, finishing a pass from Mary Dunstan to put Nigeria ahead against their highly rated opponents.

The opening goal provided Nigeria with an early advantage, and the youngsters continued to threaten as they looked to extend their lead. Their efforts paid off in the 38th minute when Oluebube Umejiaku found the back of the net.

Umejiaku converted an assist from Tosin Rafiu to make it 2-0, giving Nigeria a two-goal cushion heading into the half-time break. The result left North Korea with plenty of work to do after winning their opening two matches against Puerto Rico and Poland.

Nigeria maintained their attacking intent after the restart and strengthened their grip on the contest in the 58th minute. Kanyinsola Yusuf scored the Flamingos’ third goal to extend their advantage to 3-0 and put them in a commanding position.

North Korea, however, refused to finish the contest without a response. Yu Jong-Hyang pulled one back for the defending champions in the 82nd minute, reducing the deficit to 3-1 and giving her side a consolation goal.

The Flamingos remained in front during the closing stages to secure all three points and complete their group-stage campaign with a convincing victory over the reigning champions.

The result followed Nigeria’s 2-1 defeat to Poland in their opening fixture and a 2-0 victory over Puerto Rico in their second group match.

With seven goals scored across their three group matches, the Flamingos finished second in Group B behind North Korea and progressed to the knockout stage of the competition.

Nigeria will now turn their attention to the round of 16 as they continue their campaign at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
