Malema Warns Eastern Cape Could Continue to Struggle if ANC Remains in Power
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has taken aim at the African National Congress (ANC), warning that the Eastern Cape could continue facing serious socioeconomic challenges if the ruling party remains in control.
Malema made the remarks while addressing thousands of supporters at a campaign rally in KuGompo City, where he questioned the ANC’s performance in government and its ability to improve the lives of ordinary residents.
His comments come as political parties step up their campaigns ahead of South Africa’s upcoming local government elections, with parties seeking to win voter support and strengthen their positions in municipalities across the country.
During his speech, Malema highlighted several problems affecting communities in the Eastern Cape, including high unemployment, poverty and concerns about the delivery of basic municipal services. He also raised issues surrounding access to reliable water and electricity, urging residents to carefully consider the ANC’s record before deciding which party deserves their votes.
The Eastern Cape has traditionally been one of the ANC’s important political strongholds. However, ongoing concerns about poor infrastructure, limited job opportunities and the quality of municipal services have created an opening for opposition parties to challenge the governing party’s influence.
Malema used the rally to present the EFF as an alternative, encouraging residents to consider whether new political leadership could bring meaningful improvements to their communities.
Meanwhile, the ANC faces the challenge of defending its record and convincing voters that its policies can deliver better services and create more economic opportunities.
For the EFF, attracting thousands of supporters to a rally is only one part of the campaign. The party must still translate that enthusiasm into votes when residents head to the ballot box.
Ultimately, voters in the Eastern Cape will decide whether to maintain the ANC’s political dominance or give other parties an opportunity to lead their municipalities.
