Kwame A-Plus Reacts After NDC Chairman Asiedu Nketia Says He Is Not Seeking Re-election

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A-Plus, has reacted sharply to news that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, will not seek re-election.

The party’s Director of Elections and IT, Mahdi Gibril, announced on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, that the Chairman would not contest the upcoming NDC executive elections. A-Plus shared the news on his official Facebook page on Thursday, October 22, 2026. He appeared to suggest that the decision may be linked to a future presidential bid.

In his post, the MP said Mr Nketia had been in politics for decades. He argued that the Chairman’s own region, despite its gold, timber and fertile land, still faces underdevelopment. He claimed that some communities lack basic sanitation and that some children go to bed hungry.

A-Plus also raised the issue of age. He noted that Ghana recently ended a presidency under a leader who took office at 72 and left at 80. He said Mr Nketia is 69 and would be 72 if inaugurated in 2029. He added that a two-term presidency would end when the Chairman is 80.

The MP further asked what guarantees Ghanaians have that the Chairman’s family would not face the troubles faced by the family of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. He stressed that the presidency is not a retirement package or a reward for years in politics. According to him, it demands vision, leadership, accountability and measurable results.

Responding to expected criticism from supporters of the Chairman, A-Plus said he was not afraid of their anger. He said he has achieved a great deal in less than two years as an MP. He also said that insults from his critics only encourage him to speak out more.

The post has drawn many reactions on social media. Neither Mr Nketia nor the NDC has responded to the MP’s comments at the time of this report.
