Koku Anyidoho Forgives Asiedu-Nketiah, Wishes Him Well as 21-Year Era Ends at NDC Headquarters
Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy General Secretary Samuel Koku Anyidoho has expressed forgiveness towards Johnson Kwadwo Asiedu-Nketiah, wishing him well as he prepares to leave the party’s headquarters after 21 years in a leading administrative role.
In a statement shared on his X account on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Mr Anyidoho congratulated the outgoing National Chairman on his years of service and reflected on their long-standing political relationship, which was marked by both cooperation and disagreements.
“Ayekoo… I forgive you for what you sought to do to destroy my political career. I have moved on in life and wish you well as you also move on in life,” Mr Anyidoho wrote.
Mr Anyidoho served as Mr Asiedu-Nketiah’s deputy when the latter was the party’s General Secretary. He said he had no major problems working with his former boss but explained that their relationship became strained after he decided to contest him for the General Secretary position in 2018.
According to Mr Anyidoho, his decision to contest followed an assurance from Mr Asiedu-Nketiah that he would not seek another term. He said the outcome of that contest eventually shaped the course of their relationship.
Recalls Asiedu-Nketiah’s Years of Service
Mr Anyidoho also reflected on Mr Asiedu-Nketiah’s political journey, recalling his election as NDC General Secretary at the party’s congress in Koforidua in 2005, when he succeeded Dr Nii Armah Josiah Aryeh.
He noted that Mr Asiedu-Nketiah went on to become the party’s longest-serving General Secretary before moving into the position of National Chairman in 2022.
Mr Anyidoho described the end of Mr Asiedu-Nketiah’s tenure at the party headquarters as the conclusion of a significant chapter in the NDC’s history.
Despite their past disagreements, Mr Anyidoho said the two men recently met by chance at Prempeh II International Airport in Kumasi.
He recalled that they exchanged greetings, shook hands, joked and later travelled on the same flight to Accra.
The encounter, he said, reinforced his belief that their differences should not overshadow the areas where they shared common ground.
“I believe that there is more that unites us than divides us,” he stated, adding that he had chosen to focus on the positive aspects of life rather than dwell on past grievances.
Mr Anyidoho also suggested that Mr Asiedu-Nketiah may seek to become the NDC’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2028 general elections.
However, Mr Asiedu-Nketiah has not formally declared a presidential bid. His decision not to seek another term as National Chairman has nevertheless fuelled speculation about his future political ambitions.
Mr Anyidoho concluded his message by acknowledging Mr Asiedu-Nketiah’s contribution to the party and expressing hope for the future, saying that both men would continue to see how events unfold by God’s grace.
