Kitui MCA Arrested in Nairobi Over 3 Alleged Phone Thefts as Detectives Uncover Old Court Warrant

A sitting Member of the County Assembly (MCA) from Kitui County has been arrested in Nairobi over three alleged mobile phone theft incidents reported in the Central Business District (CBD) in August and September 2026.

Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka, who represents Ikanga/Kyatune Ward in Kitui County, was arrested by detectives from Kamukunji Police Station along Mfangano Street on Friday, October 23, according to a statement issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The arrest followed investigations into a series of reported phone thefts in Nairobi’s busy commercial centre. Detectives reportedly used intelligence gathered during their investigations and CCTV footage from the locations where the incidents occurred to identify the suspect.

According to the DCI, the three incidents were reported in August and September, prompting detectives to investigate the suspected thefts and track down the person believed to be connected to them.

CCTV footage reportedly played a key role in the investigation, helping detectives identify Musyoka in connection with the incidents.

The MCA’s arrest has also brought renewed attention to a separate criminal case in which he is reportedly wanted for failing to attend court.

In its statement, the DCI said Musyoka has an outstanding arrest warrant in Criminal Case No. 112/303/2024, which originated at the Makadara Law Courts.

The case relates to a separate charge of stealing. According to investigators, Musyoka had previously been released on bond but failed to attend subsequent court proceedings, leading to the issuance of the warrant.

The outstanding warrant means the latest arrest involves two separate legal matters: investigations into the alleged phone thefts in Nairobi’s CBD and the earlier case in which he was expected to appear before the court.

The DCI did not state in its announcement whether the two matters would be handled together or separately.

Following his arrest on Mfangano Street, Musyoka was taken into custody for processing ahead of his expected arraignment in court.

The agency said detectives would continue pursuing evidence and presenting suspects before the courts, regardless of their political positions or social standing.

In its statement, the DCI reiterated its position that no individual is above the law and urged members of the public to report information that could assist investigations into criminal activities.

The agency also provided its toll-free reporting line, 0800 722 203, and WhatsApp number, 0709 570 000, for people wishing to share information anonymously.

Musyoka’s arrest is likely to draw attention because he is an elected county representative, but the allegations remain subject to the legal process. His arrest does not, by itself, establish guilt in either case.

The next steps will depend on the court proceedings and the evidence presented by investigators. Any determination of criminal responsibility will ultimately be made through the judicial process.
