Kenyan Working In Eastleigh Quits His Job After The Building Collapsed, Here Is Why

A man who works in Eastleigh says he has decided to quit his job after witnessing the building collapse in the area. In a statement shared online, he said he saw the structure come down and is now too shaken to return to the estate. He described himself as traumatised for life by what he saw.

The man said he is never going back to Eastleigh. His main reason is that the building where he works also has big cracks. He added that it is a 12 storey building, which makes the situation even more worrying for him. According to him, seeing a similar structure fall made him realise how dangerous it could be to keep going to an office he believes is unsafe.

His account has not been verified, and it is not clear which building he works in or whether anyone has inspected it. The claim about cracks is his own observation, and it is not known whether the owner or the authorities are aware of any structural concerns. Even so, his decision shows how deeply the incident has affected people who live and work around the area.

The collapse has already raised questions about construction standards in Nairobi. Governor Johnson Sakaja has said the building that fell had approvals but no occupation certificate, while police have promised to charge anyone found to have been criminally negligent. Rescue teams are still searching for people who may be trapped.

For many workers in busy commercial areas, the incident is a reminder to pay attention to the condition of the buildings they enter every day. Visible cracks, leaning walls or ongoing construction beside an occupied structure can all be warning signs. Residents who notice such problems are encouraged to report them to the county government so that inspectors can check the building.
