Kenyan Teachers Receive Salary Boost as TSC Implements Second Phase of CBA Agreement
Kenyan teachers have a reason to welcome the latest salary changes after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) implemented the second phase of the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The revised salary structure took effect on July 1, 2026, bringing monthly basic salary increases ranging from KSh 693 to KSh 2,055, depending on a teacher’s job grade and salary point. The changes are part of a four-year agreement between TSC and teachers’ unions, including KNUT, KUPPET and KUSNET. <Cite refs={[“turn702119search0″,”turn702119search3”]}/>
Under the revised structure, teachers retain their existing job grades and titles while moving to new salary points. For example, Chief Principals in Grade D5 now earn a basic monthly salary ranging from KSh 133,351 to KSh 164,977.
However, the new salary structure does not apply to intern teachers under the July 2026 circular. Teachers’ annual salary increments will also continue according to the applicable regulations.
The implementation is expected to provide some financial relief to teachers facing rising living costs, including expenses related to housing, transport and family needs.
The second phase will remain in force until June 30, 2027, as the four-year CBA continues. Read more on:
