Fake Metro Police Officer Caught Red Handed While Attempting To Hijack A Truck
An alert has been issued following the reported hijacking of a truck near Diepsloot, Johannesburg, after a suspect allegedly impersonated a metro police officer to carry out the crime.
According to the alert, the suspect was travelling in a white Toyota Hilux bakkie fitted with blue lights and no canopy. The vehicle was allegedly used to approach or intercept the truck before the hijacking took place.
The incident has raised concerns about criminals potentially disguising themselves as law enforcement officers to gain the trust of unsuspecting motorists. The use of blue lights can make it difficult for road users to immediately determine whether a vehicle is being operated by legitimate authorities.
Motorists are encouraged to remain vigilant and verify the identity of officers through official channels when circumstances appear suspicious. Drivers should prioritise their safety, avoid confronting suspected criminals and seek assistance from the police where necessary.
Members of the public have also been urged to report sightings of a white Toyota Hilux matching the description provided in the alert, particularly if it is suspected to be connected to the incident.
Details about the hijacked truck, its cargo, the driver’s identity and the suspect’s whereabouts were not available when the alert was issued.
Anyone with information that could assist authorities is encouraged to contact the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain subject to investigation as efforts continue to trace the vehicle and identify those responsible.
