Eight Efiewura actors who have passed on and the roles they left behind

According to a Post by Ghanaweb on Friday, October 23, 2026, Efiewura, the Akan-language sitcom whose title means “Landlord” or “Master of the House,” has been a fixture of Ghanaian television for decades. Set in a typical compound house, it draws its humour from the quarrels and friendships between landlords and tenants, with proverbs, everyday Twi and a little Pidgin carrying the jokes. Many of the actors who gave the show its warmth have since died.

Kwame Dzokoto, who played Judge Koboo, is the latest. He collapsed during a panel discussion on Owass Radio in Tarkwa on October 22, 2026, and died. Beyond acting, he built a career in radio, comedy and public life, and later stepped into politics.

John Evans Bosompem, known as Bob Santo, played the landlord at the centre of the story. He died at the West End Clinic in Kumasi in May 2002 after an illness, aged 67. He was also a celebrated concert party performer who appeared on GTV’s Key Soap Concert Party with his Omintiminim troupe.

Margaret Quainoo, popularly called Araba Stamp, died at the 37 Military Hospital in July 2006, aged 70. Her career stretched back to the 1960s and included the film “I Told You So,” but she was best remembered as the neighbourhood gossip on the show.

Michael Moncar, who played Akoto, died at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in March 2013 after a brief illness. Veteran actor Fred Amugi, his friend, confirmed the death.

Lucky Azasoo-Nkornoo, known as MC Flava Pounds, played Adwoa Smart’s husband and appeared in Atom’s “Y3 WÉ” Krom” video. He died in May 2016, aged 27, reportedly at the Nsawam Government Hospital.

Ebenezer Donkor, known as Katawere, died in November 2016, aged 78. He had acted in more than 100 movies over a career spanning two decades.

Kofi Agyiri, who played Bra Kofi, died on June 29, 2017, while being treated for a kidney condition. His character was part of a comic love triangle with Boatemaa and Yaa Baby.

Mercy Little Smith, who played Benyiwaa, the clever and determined wife of Judge Koboo, died on December 17, 2024.

Together, their performances shaped a sitcom that generations of Ghanaian families gathered to watch, and their work remains part of its legacy.
