Ron Mgbatogu, a veteran Nigerian broadcaster and voice actor, stated that during the February 1976 Dimka coup, the coup plotters seized control of Voice of Nigeria studio and Radio Nigeria

In an exclusive interview with The Podcast Network, Mgbatogu said on the day of the coup he was working in the VON Studio. He said one of the coup plotters, Major Ibrahim Rabo, entered the studio carrying an AK-47

Mgbatogu said Major Rabo warned him to stay still or he would be killed. He said Rabo also ordered him to stop a tape recorder that was playing and he complied

Mgbatogu said all the staff members in the studio were frightened and unsure what to do. He added that Rabo eventually left the studio but was later killed within the premises

In Mgbatogu’s words: “Major Rabo came into the studio, he had an AK-47 with him and he was reeking of alcohol. He said to me, ‘Be dead at ease, any movement you are dead, be dead at home’. Those three statements all had dead”.
